ABOUT ME
Carissa Klokow
Remedial Therapist, Language Specialist & Author of Creative Educational Material
Carissa Klokow is a highly experienced and accomplished Educational Practitioner. She does Remedial Teaching and Tutoring of young people in all the learning areas in both English and Afrikaans medium. Over many years, she has gained a reputation for her professionalism and providing an optimally nurturing, safe and non-judgemental environment for children of all ages to fulfil their academic potential.
After qualifying as an Intersen Phase Teacher at Cape Town Teachers’ Training College and gaining valuable experience as a class teacher in various grades at schools, she studied Clinical Remedial Teaching at U.C.T. Thereafter, she worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team with Psychologists, Occupational- and Speech Therapists and Remedial Teachers at Newlands Child Guidance Clinic in Cape Town for 2 years.

Having gained further valuable experience as a Remedial Specialist at various schools, she decided to follow her passion and commit herself entirely to her private practice, working individually with children to identify their core difficulties (Perceptual, Linguistic, Emotional, Focus- related and other) and lead them on a journey to fulfil their scholastic potential. She also works with gifted children who require further stimulation and editing of written work.
HER APPROACH
With her gentle, compassionate and holistic approach and emphasis on building the child’s self esteem, which includes meticulous attention to evaluating and strengthening the fundamental building blocks for learning, she has endeared herself to countless families over the years.
Her teaching methods focus on being fun, creative and versatile, but leave no stone unturned in finding solutions and creating material specific to the child’s needs.
Her exceptional level of commitment and expertise enable her to reach young people across a wide range of spectrums.
The scores of letters from parents over the years, thanking her for turning out thriving, happy, confident children who have flourished in her care and discovered the joy of learning and achieving success, bear testimony to her impressive skill set. She develops her own resource material and is currently producing Electronic Apps, as well as publishing in book form, activities to help children to learn and consolidate key concepts in positive and rewarding ways.
